Jacob Schmidt
Schmidt is a multimedia artist whose work examines fragmented images of the reality around him, such as strange objects, architecture, and the natural environment. He uses installations to experiment with materials and imagery to break away from the fixed perception. By manipulating form and scale, Schmidt creates spaces that feel both familiar and foreign, encouraging viewers to question their sense of reality and how meaning is formed through observation. Through sculpture and painting, he builds environments and abstract compositions. Schmidt is earning a BFA – Studio Arts degree at DePaul University and resides in Chicago. His work has been exhibited at the DePaul Juried Student Exhibition, Richardson Art Gallery, Chicago, IL, focused on abstraction. Drawing from abstraction and sensory experience, Schmidt creates works that disrupt the present moment. Through these distortions, Schmidt invites reflection on how perception constantly shifts between clarity and confusion, mirroring the fluid nature of human experience.
